The Honey House, previously known as the "2nd Street house", now has a bit more of its history provided by the owner. First discovered while bicycling along 2nd Street in northwest Kalamazoo County, this little structure looked from the outside to epitomize the purpose of this website. While on an early spring bike ride, the HouseMaster connected with the owner who was doing yard work. After being informed that his little house had been a longtime feature of TinyHouses.net, the owner gave up some good details. "It's called the 'Honey House,'" he said. "Was it a honeymoon cabin?" asked the HouseMaster. "I don't know," said the owner, "but I sure got my share of 'honey' in there." "Are you sure you want me to put that on the website?" "I don't mind," he said, "She's not my girlfriend any more." "So how do you know it's called the 'Honey House'?" asked the HouseMaster. "The guy I bought it from said the guy he bought it from said the guy he bought it from said the guy he bought it from called it that." Another legend of the Honey House was its use as a rehersal hall for a local, teen-age rock band. It stands about fifty yards from the main house, so the distance served as a good insulator. No famous tunes are documented to have emerged from those sessions. Inside, the decor is classic 1970's funk. Two sofas on emerald-green shag carpeting face a really great stone fireplace. Tongue and groove pine paneling lines the walls. An old portable radio rests on the stone mantle. On the floor next to the fireplace: a large, empty, wine bottle.
