If these tiny houses don’t look quite real, it’s because they are HO scale models of classic “State of Maine” tourist cabins. The kits are state-of-the-art, 21st Century, laser cut models. The vintage is straight out of the 1930’s.

If a Maine tourist court has ever been your overnight destination on a Northeast vacation, then these scenes are familiar. If you’ve browsed the pages of Lester Walker’s “Tiny Tiny Houses,” then this motor court rings true. If you know someone who is fond of tiny houses and model trains, then this is the ultimate find.

You might have discovered them in the 1950’s or the 1970’s or just last year. Tourist cabins are still out there, and not just in Maine; northern Michigan has hundreds of little, white, over-nite cabins with gingham curtains at the windows and deep-valley beds to keep you centered while you (try to) sleep. Perhaps a Match Box model of a Plymouth Prowler might not look appropriate next to one of the models on this page, but it could still happen in the real world.

The two kits are manufactured by Bar Mills Scale Models in Bar Mills, Maine. Other kits for shacks, outbuildings, workshops, utility sheds, storage depots and a whole range of larger buildings are fascinating to look at.
